BECOME MORE EFFICIENT – SAVE MONEY AND ENERGY!

Canada Greener Homes Grant

Update February 12, 2024: The Canada Greener Homes Grant is no longer accepting new applicants in all provinces. But, The Canada Greener Homes Loan interest-free financing offer and the Rénoclimat financial assistance program are still available.

Canada Greener Homes Grant – What is it?

The Canadian government wants to encourage homeowners to invest in energy-efficient options. That is why they established this financial assistance program to promote an energy-efficient transition, namely THE CANADIAN GRANT FOR GREENER HOMES. It aims to encourage Canadians to make their properties more energy efficient, while also reducing carbon emissions.

More than 700,000 grants of up to $5,600 will be distributed. The renovations covered by this program include changing windows, sealing air leaks and additional insulation, among other things.

To clarify, the grant makes it possible to reach an amount of $250 per opening, up to a maximum of $5,000 for eligible renovations. The grant is conditional on energy consumption evaluations, under EnerGuide. The cost associated with these evaluations, $600, is reimbursable after the final visit from the evaluators.

What is EnerGuide?

In addition to being financial assistance, this grant offers a preliminary evaluation to determine your property’s energy efficiency. You will also receive important advice for your renovation work. This service begins with an energy assessment visit from a Rénoclimat advisor. Then, the evaluation report will contain your property’s EnerGuide rating as well as the energy evaluation once the work is completed. This visit will allow you to know your energy consumption and assess the necessary work to be done. Once the work is completed, it is imperative to receive a new EnerGuide evaluation to benefit from the grant. No fees are associated with this.

Important Information

  • The grant is retroactive starting from December 1st, 2020
  • Homeowners register online to plan their renovations and submit their applications
  • Homeowners also apply for an EnerGuide evaluation prior to renovations and schedule a new evaluation once the renovations are complete. This final visit is the last step to request a refund of $600
  • You must prove that you own your home (property tax bill number)
  • You must also prove that the renovations will take place in your main residence (supporting proof of identity)
  • The Energy Star label must remain on your products until the last EnerGuide visit.
